Ep. 81 Tap Dance Notes

Weekly Explorations in Tap Dance Land

Sometimes finding a step needs a little bit of nudge. Leaning on parts of older steps is a great way to get the juices flowing. If you're familiar with Ted Levy, you'll likely recognize the beginning of this step. Two TRENCHES and a CRAMP ROLL are like a call to fellow tap dancers and audiences of old that something is about to happen. Here instead of something dramatic, I play with the rhythm and the RIFF, saving the drama for the break. Classic three-and-a-break structure allows for practice in repetition and surprise. If this step is going to hit the stage, though, I'm going to have to tighten up that ending :-)

Breakdown available here (exclusively for paying subscribers).
