Ep. 75 Tap Dance Notes

Weekly Explorations in Tap Dance Land

I must confess, the PADDLE AND ROLL is one of my favorite patterns to start with. There is great learning to be had in spending time with the PADDLE AND ROLL, from the mechanics, getting to speed, tonally, and playing with dynamics. In this note, I start with the normal PADDLE AND ROLL, transition to a simple variation (just adding some HEELS), and then the pattern explodes into something almost unrecognizable. It is actually formulaic – just an accented HEEL every two 16th notes. All three sections all connected in the idea of the roll, but the accents make for very different rides. If this note resonates check out the breakdown to find out what is really happening!

Breakdown available here (exclusively for paying subscribers).
