Here's another step that may fly under the radar. The hop flap and the open third (or slurp or riff, if you like) are both technically challenging. Is the pay off worth it? Oh yes. The rhythmic flow is pushed along by these little fills in a way that is not intrusive. Watch for the different timing of each fill as well. Sometimes its the attention and variety in the little things that make the larger step work.
