Ep. 89 Tap Dance Notes

Weekly Explorations in Tap Dance Land

There’s a big tip of the hat to Gregory Hines on this one! This three-and-a-break is one of those steps that really takes me somewhere. Literally, by way of the traveling and turning. Figuratively, by way of its close connection to my mentor and friend. Musically, by way of its driving rhythm. Technically, by its varied use of a single idea – the third, or slurp, or riff (depending on who your teacher was). I find great joy in steps like this. The fact that every part of it has something to grab a hold on and really work out makes them really interesting and a lot of fun to play with!

What steps are like that for you?
