Ep. 87 Tap Dance Notes

Weekly Explorations in Tap Dance Land

It feels like I haven’t played a slow groove in a while. So here is one. A three-and-a-break at that! When a step grooves, and there’s a break I like to treat it like a drum fill. If you get comfortable enough with the groove and the break you can begin to play with the structure. Three-and-a-break (AAAB), two-a-break-and-one (AABA), and so one. After all the the chunks of material that make up steps are just that, chunks. They have their personality, which makes them suitable for particular placement, but playing with where we put them is part of the fun.
