Ep. 72 Tap Dance Notes

Weekly Explorations in Tap Dance Land

Oh the triplet and its wonders. This step began as a remembering of Jimmy Slyde as you may be able to tell from the opening lick. Then it quickly evolved into a play on the elasticity of rhythm that triplets allow for. It's alsmot like I enter a time warp when everything slows down (even through the tempo never changes). When the triplet drops the vibe shifts, the pacing adjusts, and there is a kind of suspension that makes for some fun feelings. Where is he going? Will he land? Where will he land if he ever does? All fun questions to hold and offer in the midst of groove. Establishing and offering something everyone can hold on to in the midst of these kinds of shifts is the stuff of beauty.
