Ep. 62 Tap Dance Notes

Weekly Explorations in Tap Dance Land

Funny accents makes this groove of triplets hard for me to hear! That's something serious to work on. Hearing rhythms is a function of familiarity. Haven't heard a groove before? Can't tell where it sits? Sit with it. Dig into it. Ask for help! Interact with it until it becomes something familiar to you. Something that you can execute, even. Otherwise that rhythm will remain beyond the scopr of your hearing and by extension your doing. There is a difference between growing towards the things that resonate with you (one way to direct the pursuit of knowledge) AND avoiding things that we can't hear. Sometimes the greatest learning happens when we learn to listen to the things that are most foreign to us. By the way, I'm still talking about tap dancing 🙃
