Flurries and grooves and accents OH MY! Years ago I remember happening upon the idea of the seven note roll. A pattern that starts on a beat and takes you to the next beat with a flurry of notes in between. This step comes out of the gate with just such a flurry before settling into a little groove, and finishing off with a series of accents. The accents provide the grounding of a core rhythm, upon which the groove and the flurries are built.
