Value
I remember a time when relationships were more important than information. Maybe it was because people held the information. The internet had yet to overtake. Google wasn’t the goto. Maybe we had more time. Technology had yet to make everything, including our jobs, accessible 24/7. Maybe we were more protective of what we had, and others couldn’t just learn from wikipedia the relationship a farmer has with their land, the way a jazz head can guide you through the music, or the experience of being apprenticed by a master in a particular craft and having your first lesson nowhere near the worksite or office.
Here’s the thing. When people held information at least it mandated we value them so that we could get what we wanted. Now we have to value people just because they are people. Shouldn’t that be easier?
