Transcriptions

Jazz musicians do this often. Listen closely, over and over, until you can write down what you’re hearing. Then play what you've written, and check it against the original recording.

Other artists have similar practices. Visual artists copy the masters. Writers read their favorite authors.

People do this, too. We mimic those who are closest to us, and those we admire (and falsely idolize). We transcribe their nuances, predispositions, and preferences, sometimes unwittingly.

Transcriptions are sticky. They take time and the content hangs around a while after the initial work is over. Be mindful of what’s being transcribed. Keep what is beneficial and good. Be sure to chuck the rest. Lest we have to go back and expunge a former transcription.
