Taken for Granted
It seems that the consistent things get taken for granted. The constant friend, the steady job, and the talents we’ve been given, are all easy to gloss over in our day to day. We can find ourselves not paying much attention to the friend who is always there, complaining about aspects of the job, and tiring of the responsibility that come with talents.
Stop.
If we believe that life is a gift, even the simplest breath is something to be thankful for - something anyone who has suffered shortness of breath will have a visceral understanding of. If that is true, anything more than a breath is bonus.
A practice of gratitude tracking is a good way to become mindful of all the things we can be thankful for, even during times we feel are “bad.” What excites me is the outcome of a practice of gratitude: Generosity.
The more we are thankful for, the more we recognize the abundance that each of us we has. The more we recognize the more we realize it is often much more than any of us actually needs. The more we realize the more we begin to give - freely and with a joyous heart. That is a beautiful thing.
