Rest
I’m thinking back to the last time I had actual rest. You know the kind. When the signal from your body that it’s tired and an opening in the schedule actually align. The result is the best nap of recent memory. Deep sleep overtakes you without any trying. There are no dreams. You wake up roughly 1-3hrs later at peace and with a sense of refreshment.
The first thing that comes to mind is, “Wow, I needed that.”
Our culture is one that does not advocate rest. Everything is done to make work more convenient and accessible. That means no separation between places of work and resting. Everything has been done to make humans into productive agents. Social media does this by turning every person on the platform into a content creator.
In a culture such as this there is but one way to truly rest. Disconnect. Turn off the technology. Lay down. Sleep. Do simple things. Allow your mind to wander. Day dream. Visit a friend. Drink lots of water.
We all know what rest feels like. In a culture that doesn’t advocate for it, let’s not forget the path to get there.
