Get Ahead of the Issue (not the story).
At some point in recent history we began to put a immense amount of effort towards getting ahead of the story. We’ve come to understand the power of perception, and so controlling how a story is told is key.
But what about caring for what the story actually is about? What if we spent as much energy on articulating the truth as we did with protecting the narrative around a particular situation. What if we simply fixed the wrongs that have been committed instead of trying to get ahead of the story.
There have been generations of humanity that have seen the same challenges over and over again. What if we stopped the challenges before they seeded. Before roots grow we all have opportunity to turn over the soil, take up the seed, and plant a better one. In every heart, with every interaction, we get another opportunity to get ahead of the issues we all face.
If we get ahead of the issue, maybe we’ll never have to get ahead of the story, because the truth will be enough.
