Every Day is Special
Special days are special, and everyday is a gift. So which one wins out? I don’t do special days well, especially arbitrary ones that are meant to remind us about something we’re supposed to remember daily. Examples: birthdays - a reminder of the gift of life; religious holidays - reminders of particular aspects of a faith be it repentance, salvation, lamentation, or forgiveness; national holidays - reminders of a particular story a nation would like to celebrate or honor.
My contention is simply this, what if all the energy put towards carving out the time, doing the marketing, fighting against or abiding in the social consciousness of the season, was put towards loving the people right in front of us on a day to day basis? No special day needed.
I don’t know. I’m just asking.
