Over the past three years I have been making a significant shift. If you’ve been with me for a bit, you may have noticed. Instead of making a lot of shows and consistently touring, I now write more than 1700 words a week, publish regularly and ask a lot of questions. I’m moving from the abstract to the more concrete. I’m shifting from the always-on-the-move to the more-often-in-place. It has taken significant effort, and I’m still going through it. All the while, this week’s question has been an encouragement.
What do you need to put away?
When pursuing any significant change there is an aspect of leaving old things behind. In order to enter into a new life some habits of thought and action have to end. If they continue, they will prevent the new life from taking shape. Sometimes it is the habit itself that we are trying to change, and sometimes it is a particular habit that is preventing the change we want. Regardless there is a process of identifying, interrupting, replacing, and reforming that is required.
