In this week’s Talking Note, I explore the idea of communal affect, notably alongside the language of boundaries. The language of boundaries brings the image of protection – often good and necessary – along with it. The language of communal affect brings up the image of the inherent affect we each have on the relationships we are a part of. As we explore the depth of relationship we have with others, the kind of community we want to be a part of, and our part in getting there, it is important to think about both the amount of exposure we offer to others and the amount of protection we require for ourselves.
In today’s questions I explore questions that have helped me become more aware of my own contribution to the relationships I am in, the kind of community I desire to be a part of, and my part in getting there.
