The pain of transformation is real. The sorrows that come from the losses we experience as we (and those around us) change are real. The suffering that can come from sustained transformation is real. So, too, is the joy of the vision of what is on the other side of all of it. The small glimpses of the greater joy we experience is real. The possibility of more sustained encounters with inner and outer peace, kindness, gentleness, joy, self-composure, and love is real. These are not lofty wishes, but actual grounded and trusted possibilities. They are what make the hard thing worthwhile.
The questions that follow are designed to help us begin to work out what we are aiming for, and what we might expect along the way, and who we might want to journey with.
